Purpose: To provide access to the vast amount of cathodic information available on the Internet but not provided by popular search engines.

Amount of Data Available: Here are some important estimates:

• It is estimated that popular search engines (Google, AltaVista, Excite, Northern Light, etc.) have access to 1 billion pages of information on the Web.
• It is estimated that 500 billion pages of information on the web is not available to popular search engines.
• In aggregate, popular search engines index no more than 16% of the pages available to them.
• Popular search engines provide access to approximately 3% of what is actually available on the Web.

Popular search engines provide even less coverage of technology, engineering, and scientific material.
When a search with Google for "cathodic protection" yields 29,500 hits we may infer that at least 953,833 cathodic protection related web pages have not been found.

There are at least 1 million pages of cathodic protection material on the Web.

It is my intention to provide access to a portion of the web which is overlooked by popular search engines.
I will, of course, restrict my attention to cathodic protection.

I will provide directed search tools as well as categorized lists of sites and pages which the popular search engines cannot (or do not) access. Some of the important areas are government, academic, and library databases.
