The History Channel's show Modern Marvels will air "Corrosion & Decomposition" starting October 13th at 8:00PM EST.

In addition to segments on corrosion of automobiles and Department of Transportation assets, the episode will detail the impact of corrosion on Navy and DOD platforms. A field examination of the extensive corrosion on decommissioned USN vessels in the reserve fleet and the difficulties in maintaining them are highlighted. Finally, the various corrosion control methods and technologies developed or in use by the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) and the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) are publicized. These represent the combined efforts of programs completed or underway with > the Office of Naval Research (ONR), Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Generally, the episode provides a good story of the Navy effort to mitigate and reduce the impact of corrosion on DOD > budgets, Fleet readiness and Sailor quality-of-life. The episode will air OCTOBER 13, 2008 at 8:00PM EST.
